The Session
The pre-school organises its sessions so that the children can choose from - and work at - a range of activities and, in doing so, build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities which introduce them to new experiences and help them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to learn to work with others.
Outdoor activities contribute to children's health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them. The children have the opportunity - and are encouraged - to take part in outdoor child-chosen and adult -led activities, as well as those provided in the indoor playroom/s.
Each morning we base the activities on the following plan:
- Doors open at 9.00am with the session starting at 9.10am.
- Children start the session with time on the mat to discuss the weather, letter of the week, show and tell and any news they they wish to share.
- This is followed by free play which includes a selection from a focus activity, painting, mark making, small world, play-doh, playpit (e.g. sand or water or flour) . Throughout free play they are called for snack time.
- Half way through the morning the children are encouraged to help tidy up.
- The clidren the have story time, singing, music and movement and musical instruments in the side room.
- Physical play time, weather permitting, we go outside into the playground where we have a selection of tricycles, sit and ride toys, dolls and prams, hoops and balls.
